What is Equine Facilitated Wellness?

The Equine Facilitated Wellness (EFW) program uses horses to offer an experiential, client-centered and strength-based approach to counselling and therapy. Our goal is to create safe, nurturing, healing spaces where clients can develop insight into their difficulties, give meaning to their experiences and develop effective coping strategies and skills to contribute to their overall mental health and wellness.

Who can Benefit from EFW?

EFW can be used as an intervention for children, adolescents, adults and families experiencing the following (but not limited to) mental health and wellness challenges:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • OCD
  • ADHD
  • Trauma
  • PTSD
  • Conduct Disorder/ODD
  • Eating Disorders
  • Substance Abuse Issues
  • Attachment/Relational-Based Difficulties
  • High Risk Behaviour

What can I Expect from EFW Sessions?

EFW sessions are typically one hour in length and are conducted at Sunrise on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Sessions are facilitated by a registered clinician along with an equine professional certified through CanTRA.
